Landmark
A
landmark is one of several
inventory items that points to a specific
location on the
grid. The
coordinates to which a landmark specifies can be found using the
llRequestInventoryData function, if the landmark is in an
object's inventory.
llGetInventoryName and
llGetInventoryNumber identify landmark inventory objects with the
constant INVENTORY_LANDMARK.
There are two versions of landmarks. The original version (those created prior to
SL 1.6) stored its data as
global coordinates. The version introduced in SL 1.6 stores the
sim name and
local sim position. The newer version has the advantage that, even if a sim is moved, the landmark will still point to the same location in that sim. The older version would, instead, point to the old location. This will typically be a void in the case of an island sim that has been relocated.
