Grid
A
grid is a graphical division of
units. In
Second Life, the grid is the general term for the entire
world. More specifically, the grid is the
simulators visible on the
world map and, even more specifically, the grid are the
servers which run
SL and have a symbolic relationship to the world map, with one server supporting one sim (though multiple sims can and are run on the same physical server hardware).
Da Boom was the first sim on the grid. Its SW (southwest) corner is at <1000,1000,0> sim coordinates, or <256000,256000,0>
global coordinate meters. Some
users refer to Da Boom as the
center of the grid, but there's no technical reason to do so.
A
gridmonkey takes care of the grid.
