JPEG2000
SL uses the JPEG2000 image compression
format, provided by the
Kakadu library, to store
textures on the
asset server. The image is converted from a
JPEG,
TGA, or
BMP-format image uploaded via the
client. Uploading an image from the JPEG format, will cause the JPEG2000 encoder to use
lossy compression. For the other two formats
lossless compression is used.
JPEG2000 is managed by the
JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) Group. JPEG2000 is the JPEG Group's new standard that may end up replacing JPEG.
