Opacity

Opacity is a degree of texture/prim/side transparency which, in most LSL functions, is determined by an alpha value or set in the object edit dialog texture tab.

There is a bug where overlapping/intersecting transparent prims (or ones with a masked texture on them) will cause fragmentation and parts of the prims to show through other prims. Also, transparent prims cannot have any shininess (environment mapping) but can be bumpmapped.
